never watched the show, don't care about it, but it irritates me that it's ~okay~ for a male lead to be ugly, yet you'd never see it with a female lead, or most female characters for that matter. because, you know, a woman can't be on tv unless she's gorgeous.

first one is on the namedrop in the last post, too. no clue about the other.

but it'll always come back to get pinned on the m/m shippers anyway.

yeah, i totally did that once as a kid. nothing felt out of the ordinary, i wasn't sick or anything, until one morning i just started throwing up all over the place. mom took me to the hospital, they did a check-up and told me to drink some water, then sent me home. (i think they were talking about giving me an iv, but i don't think it actually happened.)

still don't know how i've managed that. it hasn't happened since. /cool story sis

i think the whole fandoms flipping out if you suggest a character is straight is often a reactionary thing to this kind of attitude. which is still fucking moronic when it's taken too far, but still.

I actually think the show's been good for sparking interest back into Conan Doyle's stories. Most of the fans I know personally have spread out into that area and older adaptations, but there are definitely those fans who are the opposite.

i dunno i think it's karmic, seeing how nemo has done the same thing before. and called her a guy sitting in a basement wearing a dress.

i just don't get why people think saying the character is straight would stop anyone from shipping them in a same-sex pairing. most people know that certain character are straight and might choose to interpret them as bi. why does this get people so angry?

because it's their waifu/hasubando and they should only like the set of genitals that come with the fanbrat throwing a fit

because in a lot of cases they're defensive (and understandably so, imo, even if that doesn't excuse their dumbassery) because of having to deal with homophobic nitwits yelling at them that x character is straight even when there's no evidence either way because ~the default is heterosexuality~ or whatever, and so they overreact and act just as badly as the people who prompted the original defensiveness in the first place.

Can't believe people suggested Madoka and Utena as fandoms upthread. It's not like there are a lot of lesbians in anime so of course people don't want that taken away.

but now that i have gained a level in reading comprehension, i will actually try to reply to what you said. idk, i don't really think they're trying to stop people from shipping anything, necessarily. although i'm sure they would be happy if their mindless ranting made someone SEE THE LIGHT hallelujah they'll never ship yaoi again!!! i think it's more like they're engaging in the internet equivalent of rambling just to hear the sound of their own voice, just with about 200x more ineffectual sputtering rage. because their own heterosexuality is threatened by the existence of slash. somehow. i guess.

yeah suggesting series that are heavily hinted to have it or do have bi/gay characters canonly is just a brazen display of homophobia or just how stupid it is to troll insisting everything must be status quo whitebread straight

Subset of the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory, I imagine. It's amazing what kind of doucherockets people will turn into even if there's not any real anonymity. It's the Internet, so it's not "real" and other people can't really see you is probably the thinking there.
