Two people that have given him excessive behavioral issues (in the former) and clear joke-rival manipulation issues (in the later).
You have no canon basis that Gráinne is in any way like Rin. Reading the blurb during vol 2, or even exerts of the legend around the internet would let you know the light of Gráinne's character.
You (and Mini) have no solid basis for Issei's gay interpretation. You've said it yourself that you'd be willing to take what's initially a joke character trait and play it straight to see what transpires (protip: this shitstorm is the result).
Issei is not a character that requires acres of headcanon. Rather, you just need not play him as DEEP as other TM types who get more screentime. His life is SUPPOSED to be normal and average in comparison to the likes of Shirou, Rin, Sakura, etc. That's one of the points of his character: to be able to contrast the swords and sorcery for the plain and mundane.
And the final nail in the coffin: Lancer is not a deliberate dishonorable bastard. There's nowhere for that plot you're hoping for to go but down in flames, and that's the sole reason why. If Lancer's player were anything about caring on canon, then there wouldn't BE an Issei/Diarmuid ship to begin with. And given the level of hell Diarmuid went through to uphold both his honor AND the Geis Gráinne placed on him, not to mention the love that developed for her, Issei won't and should not be able to compete. And it'd end in a bloody mess in no one's favor.
Write a fic if you want to see that kind of trainwreck, but don't wish it on players who would be dishonest about how their characters are supposed to act.
And my point still stands: justification to play a joke trait dramatically straight is shitty playing, no matter how you slice it.
