Anon who'd like to pick up Daryan here! This is a very helpful thread for me, thank you everyone! I've always liked the idea that he was something of a thrill-seeker as well as kind of a power hound- essentially black-mailing one of the most powerful members of the justice system is pretty damn risky, after all, not to mention the risk of screwing with Borginian security in smuggling the thing in the first place.

I especially like the thrillseeker angle. The way I see it, he's going for the money for the same reason some people shoplift: it's not because he needs it, it's because he's getting his rocks off on how he's getting it.
