I am going to delete all the dumb, aspergers worthy discussion threads.

this is not the place for talking about butts and farts and shrimp. take that to your plurk or rpanons.

It rubs me the really wrong way when people say that they "connect" with their character. I get it when they say that playing them is easier, but when it comes to where you're saying you "feel" like the character to the point that you're acting like them IRL or that they're taking control of you, then yeah, you need to step away from the computer.

i think there's a difference in connecting with a character or identifying with them and ... pretending to be/thinking you are that character irl.

we all find characters we identify with and can feel for and that hit really close to home for one reason or another, and i think that's part of what makes fandom cool. but what you're describing is more like soulbonding or whatever that is.

idfk it's 4am and i just got up and i can't brain.

It's like pretending to be/acting like the character IRL, like to the point of adopting some of the character's quirks into your own habits when you've never done them before. There was this one person that was said that they felt like they're just watching t.v. or taking a bath and they feel like their character just entered their body and right then and there they felt like that character was them.

I've used that term before but I've never done any of that shit. When I say I connect with a character, I usually use it to distinguish between characters I like and characters that I find incredibly easy for me to write and that I also get enthusiastic about writing/RPing/etc. Sometimes they're characters I relate to, sometimes they're characters that hit all of my sympathy buttons, and sometimes I think that they're just really fascinating.

But people like the RPers you just described? That's super creepy, and I hope you can disengage and avoid them as much as possible.
