I am going to delete all the dumb, aspergers worthy discussion threads.

this is not the place for talking about butts and farts and shrimp. take that to your plurk or rpanons.

I hate grown-ass native speakers of English who completely fail to grasp simple, common things that most people master in grade school.

Like when to use double consonants. There's a difference between "hoping" and "hopping," y'know. "Wipping" and "hidding" aren't even words. Nor is "shinny".

"Where" is not interchangeable with "were". Each of these words has a distinct meaning. You can't use one to mean the other.

What's worse than the errors themselves is when you gently try to point them out and the player gets all defensive. "YOU COULD TELL WHAT I MEANT IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL SPELLING ISN'T IMPORTANT LEAVE ME ALONE!!!1!11"

i hate when people try to pluralize words by adding apostrophes. "these are my character's!" "look at those guy's" "i need lots of pillow's."

YOU LEARN THIS IN GRADE SCHOOL, FUCKUPS.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-26 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Wtf. Why would you use an apostrophe to make a word plural.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-26 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
APOSTROPHES DO NOT MEAN OH SHIT HERE COMES AN S

+ALL THE NUMBERS

(Anonymous) 2012-04-26 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
this still makes me laugh and is helpful for those stupid folks out there

fanficrants taught me to immediately finish those possessives with 'baby'.

Look at those guy's baby.

I need lots of pillow's baby

BUT PENIS ALSO WORKS.

I actually do this a lot without realizing that I've put in an apostrophe when there shouldn't be one. By the time I do notice it, it's too late and that tag has been done.

I get really ffffuuuuu at my stupid mistake.

My biggest pet-peeve is when they use "loose" instead of "lose". Dear god I see this one SO MUCH.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-27 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I love how loose has the shorter sound then lose as well.

I am the type that makes more errors the later I stay up. A polite correction of grammar is better than letting a typo sit, IMHO.

+1

If I'm powering through tags while deprived of sleep, I'll make these mistakes. It's always a relief when someone points them out to me so I can edit and save myself embarrassment when reading back on the thread.

Shinny is totally a word. It's a game of pickup hockey.

"Where" is not interchangeable with "were". Each of these words has a distinct meaning. You can't use one to mean the other.

THIS DRIVES ME UP A FUCKING WALL AND I SEE IT HAPPEN EVERYWHERE

I WANT TO BLUDGEON EVERYONE WHO DOES THIS WITH A DICTIONARY

(Anonymous) 2012-04-27 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Don't you mean everywere?

(Anonymous) 2012-04-27 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
meh i do this

it's not that i don't know the difference, it's that i have a tendency to mix up homonyms when i'm typing quickly. (it's actually only started happening in recent years and i have no idea why.) most times i catch it, but sometimes i'm not paying enough attention to do so. i'm pretty sure that's the deal with most other people too.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-27 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
But where and were aren't homonyms! They're relatively close in pronunciation (|(h)we(ə)r| vs. |wər|) but they're sure as hell aren't the same. Try saying them out loud.

They're, their, and there are homonyms. Witch and which. NOT where and were.

JFC how do some of you people function.
