>connect is such a pile of shit. i've never seen such a popular work with such a horribly OOC treatment of the characters. so many of them are pretty much unrecognizable, but the moment you try to point that out you get a bunch of the authors' whiteknights/the authors themselves bitching you out.

i really, really do not get the hype over >connect. at all.

tried hemostuck and found it boring as hell, so i guess i'm with you on that one too.

I was about to ask what >connect was and then somebody else did it for me and now I feel the need to vomit.

Because I had no idea that an entire series had spawned off of that shitty kids-as-trolls HSO fic. Damn you anon. I was so happy living in blissful ignorance.

i admit i quite enjoy hemostuck but i really dislike >connect, which surprised me. roachpatrol's fics are pretty hit-and-miss with me anyway because of content/characterization but her writing has always been very nice technically. a lot of the prose in >connect is just...bad, though, at least on that front i expected a lot better from her. which leads me to suspect that this whole dumb series is actually headlined by the other cowriter, and she's just kind of helping it along.

i had no idea it was even popular, i just found it going through roachpatrol's ao3 archive and i've never seen it mentioned anywhere else but here. welp.

I hate that the de facto John pairing in RP is John/Vriska. Name me one game that has both and doesn't pair them.

Did these muns read the latest John updates? Canon is leading to him realizing Vriska was a HORRIBLE PERSON, that he should want nothing to do with.

Except that was probably him just being in some form of denial. One of first things he asks Meenah in the dreambubble is if she's Vriska. Just a few pages before that he was telling Jade he didn't even remember Vriska's name.

But I do agree that I don't like how John/Vriska has become a sort of default pairing. I see a lot of people pushing it like that and while I can understand it for Vriska, I can't see it for John. Same with Rose/Kanaya being a common default, but I won't say more than that because I don't want to see a repeat of that fucking moronic argument on rpanons which happened when Act 6 Intermission 2 was running.

he hasn't talked to her in over a year. he's 14, god tier, thinks he's hot shit and knows all there needs to be known about romance, because he's older and powerful and ~above that petty nonsense~. canon's not leading him anywhere about who he should or shouldn't associate with. he hasn't even determined that for himself.

I can't remember the game right now, but I know somewhere there is a John/Dave relationship.

I hate how low the standards are for this fandom. I'm not part of it, but I have enough friends on plurk that are, and the amount of shitty fanart that gets passed around is astronomical. Same goes for cosplays that people fawn over, and I'm going to assume a lot of the fic is the same way.

I'll be the first to say that a really good artists are doing fan work for Homestuck, but they're totally eclipsed by absolute shit that everyone (for some reason) loves.

sometimes it's not about the art, it's just a funny inside joke or other silly thing. though I will agree, as long as you're drawing the popular ships it could be done in mspaint and you'll still get like 100 reblogs and likes.

Frankly, I think people bitching about quirks can just suck it up and deal with it. Homestuck didn't invent funny ways to type in RP, and definitely didn't first introduce us to colored text. Only once it was associated with a lot of big casts did it suddenly become this horrible thing that requires fucking opt-in posts.

Except that when other people type obnoxiously or use sparkles or whatever, it typically isn't in every single fucking post and every single fucking comment from every single fucking person in the entire BALLS GIGANTIC FUCKING CAST.
