LEARN WHAT THESE TWO WORDS MEAN. ROLL. ROLE. THEY ARE SPELLED DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE THEY MEAN DIFFERENT THINGS.

to be fair i think 'roll call' tends to trip people up because 'role' seems like it'd make more sense

English is not my mother tongue (in fact, it is my third language), and I still get confused, sometimes, or I type too fast and forget to double-check.
