Whiteknighting of your own accord is still whiteknighting. You're still not doing the person you claim is your friend, regardless of what mistakes he makes, any favors whatsoever.

It bothers me (and other anons, I assume) more that you seem to be dismissing what he's done as opposed to saying, "yes, I know he has done this shitty thing, but I'm willing to remain friends with him anyway". There's no defending him for this unless Jex himself decides to step up to the plate, because it IS hurting him more than helping him.

You're perfectly within your rights to say you like him and are friends with him despite all this. But the line is drawn when you start to try and use "I'm friend with him" to excuse and brush away his shitty behavior. He won't learn from his mistakes if he's being excused and even encouraged to continue doing this, because that's not how making mistakes and owning them is supposed to work.

...This is before I had scrolled all the way down to see Jex had already replied, so scratch that part. The rest applies, though. You did him absolutely no favors by knee-jerk reacting because you were angry.

It's okay to like someone even if they've done shitty things. It's less okay to excuse those shitty things because you are friends.
