I don't like plurk either, but your second reason is actually why I did get one. It's not impolite to just walk away from plurk conversations whenever you feel like it, so when I'm done talking to a person I don't have to continue to be badgered by them. I sort of traded demons but I still prefer it to aim and especially aim chats.

The best thing about plurk, imo.

It's easy enough to avoid the drama by not adding 90+ people, not talking shit in public plurks, and not plurking your status every 30 minutes.

Basically, if you have some semblance of self-restraint you'll be fine.

tbh I only have a plurk so I can keep up with friends who live in different time zones or have different schedules than me. I used to be able to just chat with them on AIM, but now that we have actual responsibilities and Real Adult Schedules we have to keep up with, we just can't stay up as stupidly late as we used to.

as someone who has over 160 people on my plurk, there's only drama if you're friends with dramatic, wanky people. if you only friend sane ones, that won't be an issue.

People keep whining about plurk as if it magically generates wank, but no drama would be happening if they or their friends weren't the problem.

exactly this. i've never had drama explosions, i've never had to cut anyone, and even when people disagree in my plurks they're decent and polite about it. it's all about the people and not the medium itself.
