Hell, I prefer subs, but I still think she was being a rude fucker about this. I'm not going to sneer at people just because they prefer the easy access version of something.

it's a case-by-case thing. Every show has a different dub and a different relation to it's country of origin. Some work better dubbed, like Baccano, and some have amazing dubs, like Baccano. I prefer subs a lot of the time, but a lot of dubs are fucking amazing.

Not to mention I have a friend with bad eyesight. She can follow the flow of a show fine, but when it comes to subs she's a bit lost, especially when you consider that half the sub groups out there use weird fonts and colors just for the sake of it.

I do agree with you there. I would never bother with the subbed version of Cowboy Bebop or Big O because the dubs are amazing and convenient. My preference for subs mostly lies in the fact that my favorite shows have gotten horrible dubs with very ill-fitting casting. (And I will admit, if I wasn't watching subs on a computer I would get fed the hell up, because I'm constantly pausing to read, even if I don't realize it.)

So yes, as you say, there is a lot of merit to dubs.
