i hate how every time something remotely negative about HS or HS RP is said, the HS fans and players have to descend en masse to explain away and whiteknight and generally be obnoxious about the fact that oh no, somebody doesn't like their canon or wants to call players out on their shitty behavior.
like, if you say you're not interested in the canon or are turned off by the length or art style or whatever, or say you tried it and didn't like it, suddenly you're inundated with "I KNOW YOU JUST TOLD ME YOU WEREN'T INTERESTED BUT LET ME TELL YOU WHY YOU SHOULD READ IT ANYWAY" or "YOU NEED TO READ UP TO ACT [arbitrary number] BEFORE IT GETS GOOD". no fuck you, i'm not going to waste a bunch of my life reading something that makes my eyes bleed to get to "the good part".
and if HS players are ever called out for bad rp behavior, no matter what it is, some of them will inevitably crawl out of the woodwork to remind us that "oh not all homestuckers are that way" or stick their fingers in their ears and go "lol haters gon' hate, let people have their fun". even if it's, say, someone being cliquish and exclusionary (which i've seen from several hs players in my game). yes, i know not all of you are like that. but shitty behavior is still shitty behavior. don't make excuses for it just because it's a fandom you like and you personally are not that way.
if it were any other fandom, this type of shit wouldn't be tolerated. so i don't know why HS fans get a free pass to be obnoxious.
I've never seen another thing with fans, even the ones who purport to hate the crazies, who could be so consistently be counted on to respond to offhand remarks about Homestuck seeming dumb or ugly or not making sense with walls of text about crazy WELL YOU SEE THAT'S BECAUSE KISMETIC REDRUMS TROLL BLOOD SPRITMATE bullshit no one cares about
welp, not to be one of those white-knighters you hate so very much, but all homestucks are not like the people you describe. some of us that understand why people don't like it or want to get into it, who are decent and nice, would really like homestuck to be known as something other than "that shitty webcomic with the horrific fandom", since they like it.
but people like you never give us a chance, because everyone is like them. we don't like them either, anon. i hate my own fandom, because so many people give us a bad name to the degree that i can't be proud to say "i'm a homestuck" because 98% of the internet then turns their nose up at me and thinks i'm an asshole.
to be honest the thing I hate even more than Homestuck and its fans are people who use every time it comes up in a friend's plurk as an opportunity to make sure everybody knows how much they hate it
