the anime is a steaming pile of shit and is a horrible adaptation of the novel. the manga follows the novel a bit better.
i hate the fucking fanbase more, though. they turned it INTO a KYAAAA BL!!!! with their stupid fanbrat mentality. tumblr (already a cesspool of shit) made it so much fucking worse with the "so heterosexual" jokes. the anime was pretty terrible, though, so i guess terrible + terrible go together hand-in-hand. love the novel, though. it's obviously much more than just the romance in the novels, as it should be. it's like star wars or any other sci-fi with a romance subplot, but stupid BL fans have to go and toss that out the window for the sake of a canon BL pair. fuck.
yup, the novels are good. the anime amped shit up to eleven in the fangirl pandering department, the novels are far more toned down and focused on the actual plot and friendship between the main characters.
plus shion actually has some personality, which they removed from the anime. he can snark with the best of them and it's super fun to read.
here (http://9th-ave.blogspot.com/) you go!! it's so wonderful and beautifully written, imo. the translator keeps the beauty and it's a very wonderful translation. i love everything about this. the manga is on mangareader, if you wanted to read that, too.
shion is just so lovely in the novels. and nezumi is, too. i found everything so blah in the anime -- and we didn't get to see what a wonderful mother/character in general karan is. i hope you enjoy it!
BTW; for everyone coming here: The translator for this is notorious for playing down canon m/m and has been caught repeatedly twisting the wording to suggest friendship when the japanese suggests love.
The anime didn't put M/M there to pander, it's because the author wanted m/m to be there. Japanese stories sometimes write things like kissing as "their lips met". This is no excuse to fucking censor it.
They are gay. Deal with it.
Fucking hate homophobes that pretend these characters are just friends.
the elitists who rant about the yaoi fangirls (even though they're the same) are more annoying. sorry, your sj opinions of no. 6 don't mean that you're the only ones who interpret the work ~correctly~.
