mini rant

I don't hate this canon, but I don't like much after the first three games.

I honestly wish Phoenix hadn't been in Apollo Justice at all. Apollo got no backstory because it was still the Phoenix Wright show, but in a different way - a way that still makes no sense to me. Given everything we saw and learned in the first three games, it seems weird that he would have ended up where he is. Yeah, seven years is a long time etc etc, but it felt like he lost a lot of his conviction, and with it the things that made him, well, Phoenix. I don't know. It just bothers me.

Apollo Justice felt like it was missing the heart that I loved so much about the first three games. That's what it boils down to, I think.

/old argument is old but anon needed to get it off their chest

honestly, i think i agree with most of this.

except i think i actually like the direction they took Phoenix's character in (with his disbarment); it's just that they executed it poorly and Apollo and his cast suffered as a result, making that game less enjoyable because this series is ultimately all about the lovable and funny characters. i'm not sure that i can agree Phoenix lost his conviction so much either, because i don't think he ever stopped trying to clear his name.

he just had to be more careful and quiet about it until opportunities presented themselves.

but then again, i've also not touched the games (least of all AJ) in quite some time, haha, so this is just me putting in my thoughts.

replaying the games made me realize that phoenix has always been very reckless with his cases. the disbarment was bound to happen.

but he was also gradually becoming more crafty, which leads to hobohodo.

but yeah, AJ was lacking when it comes to the character development of other characters.
