not a homophobe, just has an anal squick and really really hates players that go against a character's "stated canon orientation". may be somewhat wanky, but i doubt she's actually homophobic.

it's funny that all the pairings she hates are slash, and she gets mad when people suggest the winchesters might be anything other than straight, yet she ships buffy/winchesters and that's "against canon." seems like she's homophobic in the sense that she doesn't want to see people take dick away from ~~her~~ her character.

and it's fine to have an anal squick, but slash and male homosexuality in general doesn't HAVE to have anal involved at all. some gay guys don't like it, either.

Which personally as a gay person myself I'm perfectly okay with, because I understand that sexuality is pretty fluid (even though I'm not much of a non-canon slash shipper myself). But oh-em-gee. Anyone who even did this or admitted to doing this publicly would just be lampooned as a homophobe propagating gay erasure.

also, double standards only work when concepts are on an equal playing field. there are plenty of canon "heterosexuals," but few canon homosexuals.

The reason it is ok to go one way and not the other is because straight people have no lack of character they can identify, and every other, I hate to use the word because it has become so diluted, but privileged around.

When gay people are on equal ground as straight people, and there is a fair representation of gay characters and isn't a huge, homophobic push to erase gay characters or queer readings of gay character then you are absolutely right that it should go both ways. When someone does something well thought out I haven't seen them wanked on (Or, actually, been wanked on myself the one time I did it. In a slash predominated rp) but the things is...most don't.

The concepts themselves are on even ground in a cultural vacuum. We just don't live in one.

Hopefully one day we'll get to the point where it doesn't matter and we can all happily wank about new things and it won't be a short slippery slope between exploring an interesting angle and being a homophobe.

name one time in rp that a not canon slash pairing was ever played out not just for the end result of two pretty dudes doing it. links if possible. not saying its impossible but its rare in rp. not validating her shitty attitude either because its really annoying. but rp gay is not real life gay and mostly people just play it for the hot dickings which sucks because there are some slash pairings that could be great if done with good development.

I've seen plenty of same sex relationships developed in games over time that were well done, had development, and were not just about the sex. It has been over the course of several different games on different platforms. More often than not you get people ignoring ALL of the personal development and anything that went into the characters forming the relationship and braying about the OMG BUTTSEX. THEY'RE JUST DOING IT FOR THE BUTTSEX. I'm not saying that everyone views it through that filter or that there aren't pairings that truly are just for that, but they're not as common as the people who rabidly scream about them and ignore anything but the sex in the development make them out to be.
