I can't say I blame them. I've seen some fansubs/scanlations over the years that have added subtext, removed subtext, or have just been all around inaccurate.

Obviously you just have to find a publisher and publish a book with your OC's backstory or a guide to their world before apping. It's pretty easy.

If I were in charge of a publishing service that did this, I would print "ORIGINAL CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL" on the back of every book.

I wonder how they'd handle one of the canons I play from. Yeah, it has a published English source, but that's only a tiny little part of the canon.
