i wasn't just spanked. i was hit with books, lashed with the belt, etc. etc. and guess what, i can think of better punishments fitting my transgressions that did not involve violence.

all the shit my mom did to me screwed my self-esteem and created a huge rift in our relationship because, no matter what i did or said, i would always wonder if i was going to get the shit beaten out of me. it's not healthy.

and fyi, i was a pretty well-behaved child and still got beaten frequently. one time because i wanted to wear a skirt my grandma'd just given me for christmas rather than an old, deteriorating dress.
