Hate to break it to you, but vast majority of college students end up cramming at the last minute because they goofed off the whole semester or otherwise waited until the very last minute to get things done. That doesn't deserve any pity.

Now if you had a huge project sprung on you at the last minute, that's another thing entirely and it does happen and isn't the person's fault. Same if there's other factors that prevented work on it. But a lot of the time when I see hiatuses, it's because the person waited until the last minute to get things done when they would have been able to manage it all fine had they started working when they were first told of the project.

You're not breaking anything to me. While in college I did the very same thing for some classes. Meanwhile, the finals in other classes were hell even when I was paying attention in class because a build up of tests in which you have to spew forth your cumulative knowledge of various subjects all in one go is tough stuff. It's going to require more effort and concentration. If someone needs to take a hiatus for that, hell, more power to them. This is pretendy funtime games, what do I care if they cut down on a hobby for a bit in order to focus on a rush (which IS a fair way of handling time management). I know of people who do the very same thing when they have a seasonally hectic time at work coming up.

As I said before, I understand being frustrated about people whining about what they missed. That's stupid for anyone to do, whether it's for schoolwork, vacation, jobs, whatever. However, you half make it sound like people who take a hiatus for a crunch just aren't sucking it up enough.

+1

When I was in college I just kept up with my work as it was assigned and I never spent more than a couple of hours studying for any final in any class because I already knew the material, it was just a matter of going back over it and refreshing my memory. Meanwhile, my friends who slacked off all semester would cram for hours for the same test and their grades were never any better than mine.
