Seriously what is with people flipping out and equating not liking fanservice shows (and no I am not talking about goddamn Sailor Moon but actual fansrvice shows like Queens Blade and so on) with homophobia? A ton of fanservice shows aren't even focused on f/f but because they have a token lesbian played for laughs it now automatically means people hate lesbians if they dislike these shows? I also don't get why it's assumed anyone who doesn't like these shows automatically likes all those misogynistic pretty white boy shows.

I mean why is there so much opposition to the idea that women who may in fact be lesbians themselves can be uncomfortable with fetishized depictions of women and little girls in general but also fetishized lesbians and lesbian relationships designed to please the male gaze first and foremost? I didn't think this was a very controversial idea. Just because some women aren't offended by it or even outright enjoy those shows it doesn't mean that other women aren't allowed to be offended.

There's a difference between not liking and declaring them all (them all being a vague term) shit along with anyone who likes them, as is the case here.

this. i don't give a crying fuck if you're a lesbian and like those series- i'm a lesbian and i like some of those shows too, but that doesn't mean that i can actively deny their cultural implications. it's when you start acting like they're somehow this sacred treasure chest of female characters because they have fetishized lesbian fan-service thrown in for the benefit of the straight male the canon is primarily aimed at that i start to get pissed. no one is saying you can't like them, but just with any other canon you need to accept their faults without exploding into a defensive hissyfit.

it's not homophobic or misogynistic of me to say that i think that the vast majority of those shows have harmful portrayals of women and f/f relationships.

Welcome to fictional media and anime in general.

If you're complaining about it here it's not because they do it worse than other shows it's because they just have enough girls to make the usual more obvious.

that's very true. it just hit a nerve to see people throwing around words like "misogynist" and "homophobic" without any self-awareness.

You don't have to explain it, I'm not saying STOP WATCHING THESE SHOWS THEY ALL ARE LIKE THIS AND ARE BETTER FOR IT. Just, y'know, people need to be aware that this kind of stuff is really typical to any anime with female characters. Be aware of it and look for shows that handle their girls better. They're out there, just not as widespread.

+1

Seriously what is with people flipping out and equating not liking fanservice shows

Nobody did this, though. I see you're lying again.

What people are calling out is your repeated attempts to attack random people playing F/F as a male neckbeard creeper. This shit has been going on for months now, completely independent of the source material, as long as it's anime. It usually hits female players.

You are entirely fine not liking any anime you want. You are not fine when you misgender people that like something you don't like. You are not fine when you attack these people for "objectifying" (how? they are playing competent, well-dressed adult women in lesbian relationships. How the fuck is that objectifying?).

These fanservice anime that you pretend are the real target? Barely anyone plays from them. Show me all the people that do. Goodluck finding more than ten.

The problem is that, despite this fact, you people keep attacking players of F/F as if they played from such canons just because of the character's sexuality, completely independent of what these players actually did.

Face it: Once you do this, you are homophobic. Your goal is not to fight objectification, because none took place. Your goal is getting rid of gay female characters for the sake of getting rid of gay female characters, which are usually played by lesbians.

And sorry, people aren't buying it anymore. Maybe if you stop the constant misgendering, the constant bashing of any F/F you come across, you will be taken seriously. Until then, no dice.

Except I haven't been condemning f/f players. There are some anons who do what you describe but I'm not one of them. Also, plenty of people vent about canons in general in the canon section that not a lot of people play from anymore or that many people have ever played from.

You are unfortunately equating the beliefs and behaviors of some homophobic anons onto every single anon who has raised an issue with a show. It's understandable to be defensive if you feel as if you're being attacked but it alwo feels as if it's not possible for anyone to raise any objections without automatically being lumped in with the trolling homophobes, which is ironic when you are complaining about basically the same thing on your end.

And since there's no way for me to prove I'm not without de-anoning and linking to all of my prior comments I'm just going to end this discussion here on my end. I guess there's no way to get past defensiveness on either side as long as we're anon and trolls can muddy the waters.

lesbian relationships designed to please the male gaze first

Can you name more than five anime/manga where this actually happens that actually get played from in dw rp?

Spoiler: You'll still be wrong in most cases.

I mean why is there so much opposition to the idea that women who may in fact be lesbians themselves

Because these "lesbians" seem to have no issue immediately assuming that the players of female characters they don't like aren't lesbian.

Because these "lesbians" then make homophobic arguments (such as that non-butch girls cannot be gay, or that "proper girls do not act that way", or arguments that 1 lesbian among 100 characters is "unrealistic" and should therefore "not be allowed")

Because these "lesbians" oddly only make these arguments on f/f couples, and seem to have no issues with equally bad or worse situations in m/f or m/m couples. ASOIAF has all the issues people claim "neckbeard animes" have, ten times worse in most cases, yet ASOIAF players do not get these attacks. For the record, I like ASOIAF, but it's ridiculous that it doesn't get attacked, yet much more harmless stuff gets attacked.

Because these "lesbians" have the strange habit of turning out to be straight girls when they anon fail or talk in game chat. Concern trolling to protect homophobia is very common. Have you ever heard of planeocracy? They bullied several people that played non-sexual, non-male gaze aimed F/F out under the pretense of "protecting lesbians", and the person behind it later went on to make statements such as "I don't support homosexuals" and "I am christian, so it is unfair to call me homophobic just because I don't agree with homosexuals getting anymore rights" in public.

That's why. DW RP has a history of concern trolling and outright homophobic bashing towards people that play F/F.

You may be the one unique snowflake that has better reasons, but sadly, if you chose to air your grievances like the homophobes do, it's pretty difficult to tell that you're not just another whiny homophobe that is butthurt about lesbians existing in their game.

it's p. obvious the anon you're responding to is talking about the canons themselves, not the RP side of things

it's also p. shitty and hypocritical of you to assume that no actual lesbian could actually have issues with those canons and/or the way someone happens to portray f/f on the RP side of things

- another lesbian
