It rubs me the really wrong way when people say that they "connect" with their character. I get it when they say that playing them is easier, but when it comes to where you're saying you "feel" like the character to the point that you're acting like them IRL or that they're taking control of you, then yeah, you need to step away from the computer.

i think there's a difference in connecting with a character or identifying with them and ... pretending to be/thinking you are that character irl.

we all find characters we identify with and can feel for and that hit really close to home for one reason or another, and i think that's part of what makes fandom cool. but what you're describing is more like soulbonding or whatever that is.

Dear players who ask me to run plots for you and beg me to add you in past the player cap but then drop the plots within four or five tags, and have done this 3-4 times in the past, I am never letting you in my plots again. I hate grown-ass native speakers of English who completely fail to grasp simple, common things that most people master in grade school.

Like when to use double consonants. There's a difference between "hoping" and "hopping," y'know. "Wipping" and "hidding" aren't even words. Nor is "shinny".

"Where" is not interchangeable with "were". Each of these words has a distinct meaning. You can't use one to mean the other.

What's worse than the errors themselves is when you gently try to point them out and the player gets all defensive. "YOU COULD TELL WHAT I MEANT IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL SPELLING ISN'T IMPORTANT LEAVE ME ALONE!!!1!11"

"S-so some of you may have noticed I'm threading again in my musebox, and you may be grr-ing and linefacing at me like 'WHY U NO THREAD WITH ME TOO?? Am I not special??' I-I promise I'll start threading with everyone again soon, okay?"

Now, as I expand to explore LiveJournal, DreamWidth and InsaneJournal, amongst other "journal" venues, I take my lessons with me. I take my consistencies with me and yes, I take my bluntness with me. On addressing this, I will lay down a few things that as I see them, are truths.

On these journal venues, I find a different, even alien, atmosphere. The diversity is much less apparent. Here, I have encountered the things that had once been rare on AOL: The sex-obsessed whoremongers. The liars. The god-complexes with standards reached only by erasing all sense of creativity. The skinny-bitch cover models -- to quote Foamy -- that look like chemo patients. Even, to an extent, an obsession with "Canons" and a most disturbing double-standard between canon characters and original creations. A sort of "class system", if you will, wherein canons with cover-model portraits are first-class citizens and original creations are second-class citizens. And worse, non-human-like, non-covermodel-like characters are a third class of citizens.

It disturbed me then and it disturbs me now.

At this point, I can imagine many of you already screaming "Well then, go back to AOL already!" or "Fit in with us!" To both of you crowds, I have this to say. AOL has pretty much shattered, going entirely to the whoremongers and photographic tripe. And no, I will not relinquish what creative ability I have (though I myself would not call it masterful to any extent -- such things are very relative) to become another dime-a-dozen, cheap B-novel writer whose writings are either sold at Wal-Mart knockoffs for two bits or simply used as pet litterbox lining. These things are ultimately forgotten. I believe Leonard Nimoy worded it best when he said in his second autobiography:

"Some work simply fills time and space. Sure, it will please the bosses and pay the bills but ultimately, that work is forgotten. Meaningful work endures."

Thus, I too, have some standard by which I operate. These standards might seem impossible but I do not believe they are. If they were, few, if any, would be roleplaying or writing -- individually or collaboratively -- today.

Jaded cynicism returns in full force and what few treasures he has, he guards them ferociously. It is advised that strangers do not try to touch him or his treasures at the risk of a violent, hostile reaction. This separation was recent, to be sure, but there is little doubt that Renne Arc’err may curse that ship until the end of Time itself.

As for whether or not the three T’hy’lara should reunite…it was an ultimate failure. He had come to a strange little universe, finding vicariously that such bonds are not held so sacred. In a few short months, he learned the unequivocal way of Humans and in this, the light he had held so dear flickered.
In the space of a few mere words on October 14, that precious light went out.

In the space of mere words, a Bond was lost to the carnal lusts too debased to be called sacred.


Now, Renne is virtually the same being he used to be: Jaded, cynical and upon meeting any Human, he is wont to completely distrust them on this merit of Humanity alone. If you think you are both strong and decent enough to melt the ice around this heart, you can try. But, if you fail, it will be your failure and not his own.

Holy random apostrophes, Batman, the victim complex is strong with this one!

The last part baffles me. Is she wanting my character to try and defrost his cynical, tree-husk-weeping heart, or me to do it to her? And why would anyone try when, if they make a mistake, it'll be all like

YOU FAILED. YOU FUCKED UP. YOU RUINED IT ALL. SPOILED ALL. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

This is to make things easier for those who are unable to discern such things through the previous entries.

I hate how I haven't played with or even talked to a RL friend of mine because they're never online because apparently they're too busy. But they're not too busy to update plurk and get miles of *LICKS YOU* and *SEXES YOU* and asspats from a scarily devoted horde of fangirls.

It's a few things.

1. She's asexual and doesn't understand the appeal.
